Amy is the Associate Director of the Teaching Innovation Center, for the School of Life Sciences (SOLS). Her passion is to develop high quality inclusive courses that effectively implement emerging technologies. The Teaching Innnovation Center is a "makerspace", staffed with educational and media experts, where faculty and instructors learn, share and collaborate with evidence based teaching practices and innovative technologies for their face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online classes. Amy's team develops faculty teaching skills through a variety of learning options, cycles of reviewing courses, and collaborative team meetings. She is also teaches the BIO530 Scientific Teaching and the EDT180 Technology Literacy courses.
Most recently Amy has been involved with the use of virtual reality for online lab classes, and developing the new online biology degree. Amy’s graduate work included studies in elearning, adult learning and faculty development in higher education. Her thesis focused on specialized training to prepare adjunct college professors to be effective in their classrooms.
Amy has presented at various conferences, including Educause, The Teaching Professor, and the Online Learning Consortium. She is the Associate Director on the Executive Board for the Emerging Learning Design community and conference, and co-chair of the Committee for Campus Inclusion on the Tempe campus at ASU.
Amy’s past work experiences includes being an Instructional Liaison at Thunderbird School of Global Management in their distance learning programs, teaching at the Art Center College of Design in Tucson Arizona, and developing advertising campaigns for various national outdoor companies including Pentax Cameras.
