With a primary focus on business law, Catherine Barnard teaches courses in contract law, business relationships, U.S. law and legal analysis, employment law, business law, and landlord-tenant law.
Before joining the College of Law, Professor Barnard practiced at Snell & Wilmer, LLP, specializing in complex litigation related to insurance coverage and professional liability. In her legal practice, she advised policyholders and carriers on various commercial insurance coverage issues. Her experience in professional liability included defending attorneys against malpractice claims and representing physicians and healthcare providers in state licensing board matters. Additionally, Professor Barnard has a strong background in transportation, construction, and personal injury litigation.
Throughout her legal career, Professor Barnard has been recognized for her excellence and dedication to the field of law. She was named a Southwest Rising Star by Super Lawyers and has been included in Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch for multiple consecutive years.
In addition to her Juris Doctor, Professor Barnard holds a Master’s degree in Nonprofit Leadership and Management.
