Biography:

Andrew Bremner is a professor in the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. His research is in the area of Diophantine analysis, which is the area of number theory related to studying equations and their associated solutions which lie in specified fields; this is a classical area of mathematics (Diophantus of Alexandria who gave his name to this subject flourished in the third century) and, historically, interest has been in equations and their solutions in integers or rational numbers. There is a strong geometrical component to Bremner's work, viewing equations as defining curves and surfaces. Diophantine analysis occurs in many areas of pure mathematics and in the last couple of decades has seen applications in cryptography and cybersecurity.
