Dr. Raj Buch drives ASU’s efforts to provide solutions for global sustainability challenges by linking ASU researchers to international development funding agencies, and by fostering partnerships with NGOs, the public and private sectors, and foundations. As Director of Sustainability Practice at ASU International Development, he leads ASU’s pursuit of funding opportunities with USAID and other development funders. As Circular Economy Practice Lead, he also integrates various disciplines across the university to drive sustainable circular economy activities, research and solutions development, and pursuit of domestic governmental and private sector funders. Dr. Buch also helped ASU to build and operate a hybrid, university-based sustainability solutions consulting practice that applies research and solutions at local and regional scales, fosters collaborative networks to advance circular economy, and develops circular economy curricula for professional and academic classes and workshops. Raj is an experienced consultant with a demonstrated history of enterprise sustainability solutions development. During his engineering and consulting business development career, he developed renewable and waste gas distributed energy solutions at Ingersoll Rand, delivering financial and energy efficiency value for clients. His Ph.D. research focused on institutional energy systems, taking a participatory approach to strategically and systematically developing sustainable energy systems.
Dr. Buch has taught courses in Sustainability Assessment, Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventorying and Introduction to Circular Economy. He holds a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, an MBA from ASU’s W.P. Carey School of Business, and a Ph.D. in Sustainability from ASU’s School of Sustainability.
