Juergen Gadau is a behavioral ecologist and evolutionary biologist who focuses on understanding the genetic and genomic basis of speciation and species differences. He and his research team use molecular methods to solve questions in ecology and evolution using social and solitary Hymenoptera (ants, wasps and bees) as model organisms.
Professor Gadau's current interests are in sociogenomics and functional and comparative genomics, as he seeks to understand the genetic and genomic basis and architecture of adaptive traits like sex pheromones, colony recognition, or courtship behavior. He and his collaborators also pursue research in the field of evolutionary developmental biology (evo-devo), to better understand the regulation and evolution of the division of labor in social insects.
