Biography

Yasmina Katsulis, associate professor of women and gender studies, joined the Arizona State University faculty in 2004. Katsulis is a medical anthropologist who specializes in research on the structural and social context of health disparities, particularly as they relate to sexual behavior among vulnerable populations. Katsulis received her doctoral degree in anthropology from Yale University (2003), and received post-doctoral training through NIMH-supported Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS (School of Epidemiology and Public Health, Yale University). Her book "Sex Work and the City: The social geography of health and safety in Tijuana, Mexico," based on research supported by the National Science Foundation, was released by the University of Texas Press in 2009. Her current interests involve policy and programming alternatives for sex workers in the local community, as well as the relationships between foster care, housing security, and survival sex.
