Biography

Horst Thieme works in the fields of differential, difference and integral  equations and of dynamical systems. Main areas of application are population dynamics and the dynamics of infectious diseases, with an emphasis on conditions for population persistence and extinction. A recent specific interest is the persistence of structured populations with two sexes and its relation to eigenvalues of harmonic maps. Thieme has authored an undergraduate/graduate text on mathematics in population biology and coauthored an advanced graduate text on population persistence and dynamical systems.
