Biography

Shane is a Ph.D. student in the Biology and Society program in Manfred Laubichler’s lab working with the Global Biosocial Complexity Initiative (GBCI) through the School of Life Sciences.

Research Interests

Shane’s current projects involve network analytics examining relationships between large datasets of academic papers to assess impact metrics and the evolution of knowledge in the fields of engineering, theoretical biology, and evo-devo in order to improve predictive modeling techniques in research. He is hoping to further implement a complex system approach into historical analysis of research and development, and hopes to facilitate more constructive interactions between private R&D and academia/NPOs with regard to data availability for the purpose of knowledge-based research.

Service

Volunteer for the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution's “Science Stroll” informing visitors on the specs of the data collection/transmission systems for the National Deep Submergence Facility’s deep submergence vehicles: the manned-vehicle Alvin, ROV Jason, and AUV Sentry; Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Woods Hole, MA.
