Biography:

Nick Vaughn is Lead Data Scientist at ASU's Center for Global Discovery and Conservation Science. Along with managing the data- and computing-intensive environment at GDCS, he leads several research projects from pushing the limits of spectroscopy for the mapping of live coral in Caribbean to mapping the extent of fungal tree pathogens in Hawaii. Initially going to school to be a forester, Nick ended up working as a technician with a Forest Service research station in California, where his interest in mixing data with ecological research grew. After a little meandering, he found his way to Greg Asner's team and eventually, the GDCS. His interests currently lie in finding new or improved methodologies for meeting challenging envrironmental mapping needs with remotely-sensed data.
