Biography: 

Dagmar Van Engen is a literary and gender studies scholar whose research explores gender-nonconformity in speculative fiction. Their current research project argues that transness is central to queer and feminist science fiction history. Dagmar’s dissertation traced a genealogy of nonbinary genders in American culture across scientific and literary representations of invertebrate animal life. Their research and teaching interests include multiethnic American literatures, gender and sexuality, disability, and pedagogy.
