Samuel DiGangi is an associate professor of special education, division of education leadership and innovation, Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College. He is a board-certified behavior analyst and serves as the program coordinator of the master of education in curriculum and instruction, applied behavior analysis program - preparing therapists, educators, administrators, community service providers and parents to address behavioral health needs across the lifespan.
Professor DiGangi's experience and expertise combine scientifically validated treatment methods with information and communication technologies – promoting equal access to educational, social and vocational opportunities. His research and teaching interests include the learning technologies of social and academic behavior; specifically, the development, evaluation, and refinement of evidence-based techniques for use by teachers, parents, and practitioners. His approach integrates applied behavior analysis, functional behavior assessment, visual analysis of data, curriculum-based evaluation and principles of universal design.
Professor DiGangi has served as associate vice president of university technology and executive director of alt^I, ASU's applied learning technologies institute. He has led nationally and internationally sponsored projects and collaborative ventures centering on positive behavior intervention and support, classroom behavior management, and adaptive/assistive technologies to enable and advance learning.
Professor DiGangi strives to foster innovation in design and implementation of instructional environments and approaches to enhance classroom-based and distance education at a local, national, and global level. He is presently researching models of training and support toward preparing educators, clinicians, therapists, practitioners and family to address the behavioral needs of children, youth, and adults centering on those in poverty, crisis, and conflict-affected environments.
Guiding Research Question:
How can scientifically validated behavior technologies be effectively applied to address the needs of underrepresented populations?
