Jeff Drucker received his bachelor's in physics from University of California Irvine and his doctorate in physics from UC Santa Barbara. During his doctoral research he developed a fascination with the atomistic mechanisms of crystal growth which continues to this day. He has studied the formation of low-dimensional nanostructures such as quantum dots and nanowires and is currently investigating the fundamental growth mechanisms of two-dimensional materials such as graphene, hexagonal boron nitride and transition metal dichalcogenides.
