Dr. Nathan Tarr is a Research Scientist for the Action Lab at EdPlus, Arizona State University. The Action Lab is a learning laboratory that produces rigorous scholarly research committed to improving equity, inclusivity, and the quality of higher education for learners everywhere. As a member of the Action Lab, Dr. Tarr's portfolio includes a variety of projects utilizing his skills as a quantitative methodologist and his expertise in identity and intersectionality, focusing towards improving student success, retention and persistence, and accessibility of education at scale. His efforts have integrated theoretically motivated research with data driven results, distilled and made understandable to academics and administrators throughout ASU.
Dr. Tarr's scholarly research focuses on the role that identity and ideology play in conflict, specifically subnational conflict. His dissertation addressed the various ways religion and ethnicity affect the likelihood of civil war recurrence. He has ongoing projects examining the role of ethnicity and religion in territorial disputes, the diverse meanings of Sharia to Muslims living in Europe, and the relationship between ethnicity and lobbying in the American states.
