Helped Arizona win public approval for a new stadium for the professional football franchise. As a key appointee to Plan B (an ad hoc task force created to develop a strategy for building a new stadium), helped design the proposal and campaign, and initiated the public meetings prior to the referendum vote. Promoted the theme ("do the math"), which emphasized the long-term economic benefits of regularly getting the Super Bowl. When the referendum for the stadium passed, appointed by the Governor as one of 8 original Board members to the first Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority. Denise led the Tourism and Youth Sports subcommittees.
Established Phoenix Black Chamber of Commerce. The Mayor of Phoenix was concerned that the City did not have a Black Chamber of Commerce, as most major cities did. With only minimal financial resources, set up an office, hired staff, developed programs and activities, recruited volunteers and served as a spokesperson. Formed a Board that consisted of all major CEOs in Phoenix. This year the Chamber is celebrating its 15th anniversary and Denise maintains good relationships with all the chambers in the Valley.
Long history in public relations-During her tenure with the Federal government, developed and supervised public affairs and training staffs at local, regional and national levels. Developed communication strategies, hired & trained staff, oversaw development of hard copy and electronic collateral. For past 16 years, has managed a public and community relations firm.
