Luis Gutierrez is a PhD student within the Biology and Society program working with Beth Polidoro and Ann Kinzig. His research deals with using IUCN Redlist methodology to conduct ecosystem assessments of coral habitat. Broadly, he is interested in human-environment interactions, particularly in Latin America.
He graduated from Arizona State University with a BS in Biological Sciences (Conservation Biology & Ecology) with minors in Sustainability and Spanish. While in undergrad he completed an honors thesis that dealt with understanding barriers preventing minority students from entering into environmental fields of study.
