Biography: 

Dr. Hamed Khodadadi Tirkolaei is an Assistant Professor at the Center for Bio-mediated and Bio-inspired Geotechnics (CBBG) of the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment (SSEBE) at Arizona State University. He joined the CBBG as a postdoctoral researcher in 2016. In 2019, he was promoted to an Assistant Research Professor position and worked at this position until August 2021. 

Dr. Tirkolaei’s research aims to explore innovative solutions to address emerging geotechnical challenges from a nature-inspired and eco-friendly perspective. In this regard, his research has focused on using microbially and enzymatically induced carbonate precipitation (MICP and EICP) as biocementation techniques for altering mechanical properties of soil. His research also includes studies on beneficial use of wastes and by-products in ground improvement. 

Dr. Tirkolaei has authored more than 25 peer-reviewed journal and conference publications. He also serves in the editorial board for “Crystals”, reviews papers for more than 20 journals and Geo-Congresses, and serves in ASCE technical committees.
