Biography

Research Interests

Broadly speaking, Mahmoud's current interest lies in exploring the relationship between environment and development, and its implications for resilience, vulnerability, and sustainability of the social-ecological system under consideration, especially in farming/rural contexts. In his work, he considers and integrates social and ecological (sub) systems at local, regional and national scales. In addition to exploring the Society and Ecology in a separate fashion, the Biology and Society Ph.D. program go beyond this, and it aims at providing insights into the interactions among them when they considered as a whole. Apart from that, the program captures Mahmoud's interest with its very outstanding faculty who are world-class scholars in the field.
