My name is Jake, and I'm from Colorado originally. I was raised in the foothills of Evergreen, and therefore have a big love for the outdoors. I graduated from Regis University in 2014 with an Honors in Biochemistry degree, playing lacorosse for three yeas and also becoming the co-president of the Improv Club on campus. After college, in order to put my biochemical knowledge to use, I became a brewer for a whiskey company while taking some time away from school. After about a year, I moved to Japan for a short period of time before returning for graduate school. Wanting a change away from biological processes within the body, I chose to work with Scott Sayres in the ASU Ultrafast Laser Lab. Here I use Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry coupled with ultrafast laser pulses in order to create molecular clusters of varying size. With this method, we are able to observe the stability and formation of different structures. I hope to be able to conduct work with ultrafast lasers for environmental or planetary purposes, however biochemical processes are also familiar to me.
