Susan Barrett (she,her) is the ASU Enterprise Records Manager, and in this role, she directs the records and information management program for the university. Sue has more than 25 years of experience leading diverse, collaborative and effective teams supporting enterprise products, programs and services.
Her previous positions include academic personnel experience portfolio manager in Enterprise Technology, director of repository services for ASU Library, knowledge manager with Enterprise Technology, and editor and archivist in the Office of the Provost.
Sue is an audiovisual archivist and joined ASU in 2005. She holds an MLIS in library and information science from the University of Arizona, an MAS in American media and popular culture from Arizona State University, and a BA in communication (journalism and broadcasting) from the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University.
Sue was a journalist and editor for more than 20 years, and draws from that experience to support projects preserving local film and news media collections. Her professional service and research focuses on participatory design methods, metadata quality, analog and digital film preservation, and representation in archival collections.
Sue developed the Digital Moving Image Archives (DMIA) guide for filmmakers to provide basic information about preserving digital audiovisual productions. The DMIA is used in the curriculum at the L. Jeffrey Selznick School of Film Preservation at George Eastman House and is a Library of Congress National Film Board resource.
