Jerry Coursen is a lecturer with the School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering at Arizona State University.
Coursen recieved his doctorate from the University of Arizona College of Medicine. The emphasis of his research was primarily in neuroscience. In particular he was interested in the anatomy, physiology and biochemistry of the mouse locus coeruleus. After obtaining his doctorate, Cousen performed his postdoctoral work at Harvard Medical School in the Department of Neuropathology. After finishing the postdoctoral studies, he left academic medicine and found himself working in health care (Human Resources, Orgaizational Development, and Employee Education) as a corporate executive at Samaritan Health System. While working in health care, he took on the responsibility to instruct bioengineers in the discipline of human and animal physiology and anatomy alongside Dr. James Sweeney. Recently, Coursen's goal is to refine a curriculum that will continue to focus on the the education of bioengineers in all facets of practical medicine.
