Dr. Polemnia G. Amazeen is a professor in the Department of Psychology (Cognition, Action, and Perception) at Arizona State University. Dr. Amazeen earned her PhD in 1996 from the Center for the Ecological Study of Perception and Action at the University of Connecticut and completed her postdoctoral training at the Faculty of Human Movement Science at the Vrije Universiteit—Amsteram. Dr. Amazeen serves as the Secretary and is on the Board of Directors for the International Society of Ecological Psychology (ISEP). Her research is concerned with identifying common lawful mathematical principles, principles of dynamical similitude, that govern the behavior of systems that appear to be very different but demonstrate the same basic behavior patterns. She draws upon existing dynamical methods from across the sciences to explore commonalities over a broad range of disparate psychological systems, including motor coordination, cognition, perception, team (social) processes, human-robot interactions, development, clinical psychology, neuroscience, and animal behavior. She develops new dynamical methods to explore the detection of dynamical relations in real-time and to analyze multiscale phenomena.
