Biography

Marilyn Thompson is Professor and Associate Director for Measurement and Statistical Analysis in the T. Denny Sanford School of Social and Family Dynamics. Her research and teaching activities are focused on the advancement and application of quantitative methods for analyzing data in education and the social sciences. Much of her methodological research has focused on challenges in the application of structural equation modeling, including model respecification, models for mean structures, and evaluation of measurement invariance. She regularly collaborates in conducting longitudinal, data intensive studies to examine children’s social, emotional, and academic development, particularly the academic development of English language learners. She also studies the use and misuse of data to inform education policy and practice.
