LeRoy Eyring Center for Solid State Science

Professor Carpenter performed extensive research on materials forstrucural applications and nuclear power reactors at SRI Internatioal, Aerojet-General Nucleonics Corp. and Oak Ridge National Laboratory before joining ASU. At ASU his research expanded to include electronic materials. He has served as Director of the LeRoy Eyring Center for Solid State Science and was the Founding Director of the Science and Engineering of Materials Graduate Program. Carpenter was elected President of the Electron Microscopy Society of America in 1989 and served as Director earlier. He was the first Director of the John M. Cowley Center for High Resolution Electron Microscopy at ASU, and received the Faculty Achievement Award of the ASU Alumni Association in 1990. He is also a fellow and past president of the Microscopy Society of America.
