Dr. Shirzaei leads the Radar Remote Sensing and Tectonic geodesy Lab (RaTLab), wchih conducts interdisciplinary research covering wide spectrum of geophysical, hydrological and industrial processes, such as seismic and aseismic faulting, volcanism, landslide, land subsidence, induced seismicity, coastal erosion, hydrocarbon sequestration and planetary atmosphere.

RaTLab works to develop innovative tools and methods based on space-, air-, ground-based observations (InSAR, GPS, seismicity …) to monitor the Earth and Planetary surfaces and associated processes. These developments require substantial advances in the field of signal processing, data mining, inverse theory, and numerical/analytical modeling as well as understanding the underlying physical process and associated hazards.
