Sohum Sohoni

Biography

Sohum Sohoni is a Computer Engineer, and is active in the area of computer science and engineering education research. He is interested in the adoption and translation of effective teaching techniques, and has established a vision for networks of discipline-based education research (DBER) ambassadors to facilitate the adoption and evaluation of research-based instructional strategies. He believes that disciplinary experts who teach in university classrooms should be supported by DBER ambassadors who can translate the terminology and methods used in educational research and contextualize them within engineering disciplines or classes to facilitate better teaching and learning experiences for our students.

He has published over 35 peer-reviewed papers in journals and conferences including papers in ACM SIGMETRICS, IEEE Transactions on Computers, the International Journal of Engineering Education, and Advances in Engineering Education. His research is supported through various funding agencies including the National Science Foundation. He has received a best paper award for his work in computer engineering from the IETE Technical Review journal, three best paper awards for his work in engineering education, two from the ASEE Midwest Section and one from the ASEE Pacific Southwest Section. He is a popular and well-respected instructor, and has received many teaching awards including the Regents Distinguished Teaching Award in 2010 at OSU.

Dr. Sohoni is a member of the IEEE, ACM and ASEE. He has reviewed for various journals and conferences, and served as session chair at a number of conferences (FIE, SIGCSE, ICTIEE, and ASEE’s annual and regional conferences). He is the past secretary/treasurer for ASEE’s ECE division, and currently serves as the division’s Program Chair. He is the Associate Director of the Indo Universal Collaboration for Engineering Education (IUCEE), and serves as the Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Engineering Education Transformations.
