Biography

Angela Sodemann investigates the area in which robotics and manufacturing intersect.  Some applications in this area involve the manufacturing of robotics components, while other applications involve the integration of robotics concepts into manufacturing to improve manufacturing processes.  Dr. Sodemann is currently pursuing three research projects: an automated approach to modeling tool wear in micromilling, low-cost manufacturing of a social robot for robotics education, and the development of a high-resolution haptic display via resonant microbeam vibration.  

Dr. Sodemann is also interested in the Engineering education problem of scaling for project-based learning.  She has developed a 'challenge' approach to teaching in which students simultaneously learn theoretical and practical knowledge by implementing learned concepts with a 'kit' of parts while following a video lecture.  She has won the Fulton Top 5% Teaching Award in each of the past 3 years.

Research Interests
