Biography

Angela Sodemann came to ASU from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Air Force Institute of Technology, where she performed research in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Vision in collaboration with the Air Force Research Laboratories.  She previously served as Senior Engineer of MIcromanufacturing Research and Development for Pipeline Micro North America, a start-up company in the electronics industry based in Atlanta, GA.  Dr. Sodemann earned the PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2009 researching control of micromilling machines, and the MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee in 2006 researching the application of Machine Learning to the control of industrial air compressors.

Research Interests

Angela Sodemann's current research interests involve working to close the gap between Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science, primarily within the field of high-precision, micro-scale manufacturing. She is working to apply concepts within artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve our understanding of the mechanics of micro-manufacturing, and our ability to produce high-quality micro-scale components in an economically feasible process. Dr. Sodemann's research involves pursuits within fields including Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Robotics, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence.
