My research focuses on scale development and educational assessment practices. In particular, I have published articles on (a) the assessment of children's social skills and academic competence, (b) the use of testing accommodations and alternate assessment methods for evaluating the academic performance of students with disabilities for educational accountability, and (c) students’ opportunities to learn the intended curriculum. In the process of conducting my research, I have developed a number of measurement tools that are now used in schools and clinics across the country. Specifically, with colleagues I have authored the Social Skills Rating System (SSRS), the Socials Skills Improvement System (SSiS), and My Instructional Learning Opportunity Guidance System (MyiLOGS). Along with Vanderbilt colleagues, I also designed and validated the Vanderbilt Assessment of Leadership in Education (VAL-ED) to evaluate the performance of principals and their influence on students’ achievement.
