Biography

Arnim Wiek is an Associate Professor in the School of Sustainability and a Senior Sustainability Scientist with the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability at Arizona State University. He is also a Guest Professor in the Center for Global Sustainability and Cultural Transformation at Leuphana University of Lüneburg, Germany.

His team conducts research in support of sustainable local food economies and sustainable urban development, in international settings. The team develops evidence-supported solutions in collaboration with government, businesses, non-profit organizations, community groups, and the public. 

Dr. Wiek serves as the academic director of the dual master degree program Global Sustainability Science.

He teaches courses on sustainability problem solving and leads solution-oriented, project-based learning studios. He has published articles on key competencies, curriculum design, and project-based learning in sustainability.

Dr. Wiek has had research and teaching engagements at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (Switzerland), the University of British Columbia, Vancouver (Canada), the University of Tokyo (Japan), and Utrecht University (the Netherlands).

He is member of the editorial boards of Sustainability Science (Springer), Sustainable Development (Wiley), and the International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education (Emerald).
