Biography

Clinical Professor of Law

Susan Chesler teaches Legal Method & Writing, Legal Advocacy, Contracts, Contract Drafting and Negotiating, and Intensive Legal Research and Writing. Professor Chesler frequently publishes articles and regularly presents at national and regional conferences on teaching transactional skills, professionalism, contract drafting, and other legal writing topics. She is currently developing an interactive web-based teaching tool aimed at incorporating transactional skills, professionalism, and ethics into law school classrooms. Professor Chesler is an active member of the Legal Writing Institute, the Association of Legal Writing Directors, and other professional organizations focusing on teaching skills and promoting the use of plain language in the practice of law. She is also a member of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section and regularly presents Continuing Legal Education seminars to practicing lawyers on legal writing, contract drafting, and negotiations.

Prior to joining the faculty in 2008, Professor Chesler taught legal methods, contract drafting, contracts, academic support, and bar preparation studies at Widener University School of Law. She also previously taught legal writing, contract drafting, and academic support at New York Law School.  Before entering the teaching profession, she was a practicing attorney in New York City for over ten years, specializing in environmental law, insurance defense, and legal malpractice, and worked as in-house counsel at a non-profit child welfare agency focusing on employment law matters.
