Alexia Shonteff joined the Department of Economics in April 2005 after working for small family owned businesses and the corporate world as a regional manager. She earned her Bachelor and Master’s Degree in Economics and Ph.D. in Education Policy and Evaluation from Arizona State University. Shonteff teaches the introductory Microeconomic and Macroeconomic courses and is the Director of the Economic Tutoring Center. She is also an economic adjunct faculty member for the incarcerated population and provides curriculum assistance at Rio Salado Community College. Shonteff received the Adjunct Faculty award in 2016-2017 and 2010-2011. She serves as a board member for the Maricopa Community College Adjunct Faculty and serves as a volunteer section editor for Education Review and serves on a neighborhood community organization working with community stakeholders and policymakers to improve neighborhoods.
While serving as an academic advisor, Dr. Shonteff was nominated as advisor of the year four times and recognized twice for positively influencing students at Arizona State University. She also served as an faculty advisor for a team that won the Edson Entrepreneurial Award and recognized as outstanding faculty at Rio Salado Community College.
In 2016-2017 she served on Dean Hillman's Faculty Task Force and headed the Development Committee that focused on onboarding, professional growth options, faculty mentoring program, improvement culture/community, expanding recognition and revamping performance reviews. Her current endeavors with the tutors has been a YouTube Channel that has had over 200,000 views https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGdgLUn9R7Qb9nsjdBDKCWg/playlists and the creation of a mentoring program. She has also created a facebook page for her economic courses and a facebook page for the tutors.
