Biography

Lenore L. Dai is a professor of chemical engineering and the director of the School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy at Arizona State University (ASU). She oversees degree and research programs in aerospace engineering, chemical engineering, materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering, and the professional science master’s program in solar energy engineering and commercialization. She joined ASU in 2008 and served as the program chair of Chemical Engineering in July of 2009 to August of 2015. Professor Dai received her doctorate in materials science and engineering from the University of Illinois in 1997. She worked for PPG Industries, Inc. for five and one-half years prior to joining the Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas Tech University in 2002.  

Professor Dai is a recipient of the Fulton Exemplar Faculty Award (2014), ASU Parents Association Special Recognition Award (2012), AIChE-ASU Professor of the Year Award (2010), Top Five Percent Faculty at the IRA A. Fulton School of Engineering Award (2009, 2010, 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2019), National Science Foundation CAREER Award (2007), Whitacre Engineering Research Award (2007), Lockheed Martin Engineering Teaching Award (2007), Texas Tech Alumni Association New Faculty Award (2005), AIChE Professor of the Year Award (2003, 2005, 2006), 3M Nontenured Faculty Award (2003, 2004, 2005), University of Illinois Young Alumnus Award (2001), and Racheff Award (1996). She has also been recognized as an Elite Expert (EliteXpertTM) and an ASU Advanced Leadership Initiative Fellow.

Research Interests

Surface, interfacial, and colloidal science, rheology and microrheology, materials at the nanoscale, synthesis of novel polymer composites and “smart” materials.
