Martha Byrd joined the Educational Outreach and Student Services division in February of 2022, overseeing Employer Relations in Career and Professional Development Services, as well as ASU Family. Prior to her current role, Byrd worked at the ASU Enterprise Marketing Hub leading an office focused on alumni engagement and impact. In this role, she worked across the university to increase alumni affinity.
Before joining the Hub, Byrd was vice president of the ASU Alumni Association, responsible for the oversight of fiscal and business services, marketing and membership, member services and alumni records, the association's travel program, legislative advocacy, business relations and Old Main’s building operations, including its use as an events venue. Prior to the her time at the ASU Alumni Association, Byrd was advisor to the vice provost for enrollment management at ASU, assisting with projects related to increasing university enrollment and retaining high-ability students, including interim director of the scholarship office.
Most of her professional career at ASU has been in University Undergraduate Admissions, where she initially led the scholar recruitment division. Ultimately, she became dean of University Undergraduate Admissions, working collaboratively with the colleges and schools to meet university enrollment targets. During her time as dean, ASU enrolled the largest freshmen class in the country three years in a row, while increasing the student and demographic profile of first-year students, as well as transfer and international students. In this role, she was responsible for new student orientation, school relations, scholar recruitment, international undergraduate admissions and applicant services for ASU's four metro Phoenix campuses. Byrd also has worked for the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College; Barrett, the Honors College at ASU; and the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering.
Byrd lives in nearby Chandler with her husband and two daughters. She received her bachelor's degree in psychology from Springfield College (Mass.) and is an alumnus of ASU, earning her master's degree in educational leadership and policy studies.
