Biography

Sara Marsteller is a Lecturer in the School of Human Evolution and Social Change at Arizona State University. Marsteller develops and instructs online courses, directs study abroad programs, and provides administrative support for online programs in anthropology and global health.

An anthropological bioarchaeologist, Marsteller’s research training and teaching interests bridge the fields of sociocultural anthropology, archaeology, biological anthropology, and global health. Her research expertise is in social identities and processes of sociopolitical change in the Central Andes. Through ongoing research in Lima, Peru, Marsteller examines long term transformations in health and identity on the central Peruvian coast. She employs an interdisciplinary approach that synthesizes methods from human osteology, archaeological chemistry, and mortuary archaeology within a framework informed by sociocultural theories of identity, social and biocultural theories of health, and regional ethnography and ethnohistory.
