Jose Causadias

Biography

Jose Causadias has been an assistant professor at the T. Denny Sanford School of Social and Family Dynamics since 2015. He received his bachelor's in psychology from Universidad Santa María La Antigua in Panama in 2001 and his master's in psychotherapy from Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Spain in 2003. In 2014, he received a doctorate in child psychology from the Institute of Child Development at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.

Culture has a central role in his training and personal life. Because participating in different cultural and academic communities has been so enriching to him, he has become enamored with the benefits of connecting different methods, theories, and ideas related to culture. He is passionate about research I am passionate about integrating research on culture, development, and health.

Research Interests

The overall goal of his research, teaching, and service is to promote innovation in cultural research that can advance developmental and behavioral sciences, and ultimately improve the health and well-being of individuals of every cultural, ethnic, and racial background. With this goal in mind, and together with his colleagues, he has developed two major initiatives:

The Meta-Research in Culture Initiative (MARTA) is aimed at generating quantitative research synthesis of cultural studies (meta-analyses) and identifying biases in the way psychologists study culture, ethnicity, and race. By conducting meta-research or “research on research”, the ultimate goal of MARTA is to improve our understanding of the contribution of cultural processes on behavior, cognition, health, and development. 

The Culture and Biology Initiative is a collective effort to advance the field of culture and biology interplay, centered on how these two processes have evolved together; how culture, biology, and environments influence each other; and how they shape behavior, cognition, health, and development among humans and animals across multiple levels, types, timeframes, and domains of analysis.
