Asian Pacific American Studies focuses on Asian American and Pacific Islander experiences in order to understand the challenges and opportunities of immigration, globalization, and race relations in the United States and worldwide. Students learn about social justice and ethnic studies movements that have made and continue to make a difference in society for all people, including Pacific Islanders and Asians. Diaspora, immigration, globalization, interethnic relations, and social networks are some of the areas of social justice research conducted by our awardwinning faculty.
Asian Pacific American Studies is part of the School of Social Transformation, home to five interdisciplinary fields of study. We pursue social justice by studying gender, race and class and encouraging our students and faculty to find just solutions to complex social problems.
