For over 30 years, the Santa Fe Institute in New Mexico has sought to discover, comprehend, and communicate the common fundamental principles underlying complex systems of all types, providing new understanding of profound scientific and societal challenges. This private, not-for-profit, independent research institute and education center, recognized as the birthplace of the science of complex adaptive systems, supports transdisciplinary collaboration among researchers and students from around the world. Several ASU scholars are on the external faculty of SFI or are former SFI postdoctoral fellows. These jointly affiliated scholars and other ASU researchers form the core of the emerging complex systems research and education enterprise at Arizona State University.
